Dr Matthew Dickson from the Centre for Market and Public Organisation has been awarded £126,685 from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) for research into the economics of education and pay.

Two grants totalling almost £830,000 have been awarded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to Professor Neville Morley of the Department of Classics and Ancient History and Professor James Ladyman of the Department of Philosophy.

Professor Chris Jarrold from the Department of Experimental Psychology has been awarded a £12,000 grant from the Royal Society for his research into children with Down syndrome.

Professor Joe Quarini of the Department of Mechanical Engineering has won a Dragons’ Den-style competition for his invention of ice pigging, a simple but effective technique for cleaning pipes and ducts by pumping through a thick ice slurry or ‘ice pig’.
