University of Bristol spinout comes first at Innovation World Cup

FluoretiQ Limited, the University of Bristol spinout developing rapid point-of-care bacterial diagnostics to tackle antimicrobial resistance, has won 1st place at the Hong Kong MedTech Innovation World Cup 2026.

The medical diagnostics company beat more than 210 startups, scaleups and SMEs from across the globe to take top spot in one of the world’s most established open innovation competitions for wearable and health technologies.

FluoretiQ’s success came after pitching in front of an international expert judging panel of leading institutions including Santander Bank, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, EY, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Cambridge, and STMicroelectronics.

Held on 5 March at the Wearable Technologies Conference at Science Park, the Hong Kong MedTech Innovation World Cup is part of the Innovation World Cup Series, with more than 20 years of competition history.

A Bristol Success Story

Founded in 2017 as a spinout from the University of Bristol by alumni from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, FluoretiQ has grown at the centre of the South West’s life sciences and deep tech ecosystem. The company remains headquartered in Bristol and is an active collaborator with the University of Bristol.

The win at the Hong Kong MedTech Innovation World Cup 2026 is the latest in a series of milestones for the company.
