This violence does not reflect the values of our city, or our values as a University of Sanctuary. There is no place for hate, intimidation, Islamophobia, antisemitism or any form of racism in Bristol. Every member of our community deserves to feel safe and included.
We have been monitoring this rapidly evolving situation very closely, working with our partners in the city, to ensure that those who need support have access to it.
Bristol City Council has provided a webpage with information for the public that will be updated with any demonstration disruption and wider city support available.
Support is available for all staff and students on campus, via our Security Services and University Police, who are available to provide help if needed. There is also guidance available online on managing your personal safety.
We have offered support to students in Residences who may be directly impacted and our Student App includes a security button that will connect students on campus directly to our Security Services.
Staff can access a wide range of support from Staff Counselling to the Employee Assistance Programme through our wellbeing service. Students can access our Student Wellbeing Services for support even if you are away from campus.
We also have our Multifaith Chaplaincy who offer faith based or spiritual support to both staff and students.
As a University of Sanctuary in a City of Sanctuary, it is at times like these that we must come together, supporting each other, showing care and compassion for those seeking sanctuary, and embracing diversity as a strength.
