A wide variety of talks and displays will give visitors a taste of university life and a chance to see first-hand all that the University and city have to offer without having to miss a day of school, college or work.
All of the University’s academic schools and departments are taking part and will be hosting interactive demonstrations and information events.
Prospective students will attend a diverse range of subject talks including ‘The immune system – harmful or helpful’ and ‘Freakonomics – learning to think like an economist’.
The new £57 million Life Sciences building will also welcome open day visitors for the first time.
Talks covering many aspects of university life - such as career planning - will take place in the Wills Memorial Building, along with specific sessions for parents and carers, mature students, teachers and careers advisors.
Visitors will be able to view a selection of the University’s Clifton residences which are open for the first time during an open day, including Goldney Hall, most recently seen on BBC One’s Sherlock. City Centre Living residences, offered in partnership with UNITE, will also be open to visitors.
A free shuttle bus service will be running throughout the day for visitors who would like to look around the accommodation in Stoke Bishop.
Prospective students interested in Veterinary Nursing and Veterinary Science courses can catch a free shuttle bus to the Langford campus, where the Bristol Vet School is based.
Around 300 student stewards in red t-shirts will be on hand to answer any questions and help visitors find their way around.
Rosie Wildman, Undergraduate Events Officer at the University of Bristol, said: “We are delighted that this open day is fully booked. With 15,000 visitors expected on the day, we think there’ll be a fantastic atmosphere around the campus.
“Open days are an ideal opportunity for visitors to see the University and city, subject areas, facilities and accommodation, not to mention meeting current students and academic staff. We look forward to welcoming future students to the University of Bristol.”

For those who can’t make the open day, the University will also host open afternoons on Wednesday 8 October and Wednesday 5 November. They will include a one-hour lecture, campus tour and the chance to speak to current students and staff from professional services.
