Bristol student Nic Ellington has been awarded one of only 25 places on the prestigious SC12 Experiencing HPC for Undergraduates Program to attend one of the world's biggest supercomputing conferences in November. 

Nic who is studying for a MEng in Computer Science and Electronics in the Department of Computer Science, recently successfully completed the high performance computing (HPC) module run by Simon McIntosh-Smith, Senior Lecturer in High Performance Computing. At SC12, which will be held this year in Salt Lake City, he will have an opportunity to hear about the latest developments in HPC and meet senior researchers from academia and industry.

‘Attending SC 2012 will give me an invaluable experience both though the content presented throughout the conference and by viewing the research process first hand,’ said Nic. ‘Viewing research from an international angle will be fascinating and provide a unique perspective few undergraduates are able to experience.’

The MEng in Computer Science and Electronics programme is run by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and delivered jointly between the departments of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Science.
