A new, feature-length documentary film directed by Bristol graduate Ian Thomas Ash is to be given a preview screening at the University on Thursday 1 December. The footage was shot in the Fukushima Prefecture in Japan, one month after the 11 March earthquake and tsunami and the explosion at the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant.

The documentary, as yet untitled, was directed and edited by Ash, an alumnus of the MA course in Film and TV Production, and was filmed and produced by Colin O’Neill, a former tutor on the course (their previous work together includes Jake, not finished yet). The filming took place in Minamisoma City, close to where the leaking Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant stands.

You can find background information about the film and some youtube clips in the latest of several guest blogs by Ian Thomas Ash on the Discovery News website.

The screening takes place in the Games Room of the Staff Club in the Hawthorns at 6pm (doors open 5.30). All staff are welcome, and there will be a Q&A after the screening.
