Leading scientists and science communicators will be discussing all aspects of Professor Gregory’s work, from his inventions and perceptual theory to public engagement in science, at a day entitled Gregorian Reflections at the Royal Institution in London.

Professor Gregory was an eminent scientist who had a long and distinguished life as a scholar who tried to understand the way in which humans perceive the world.

He was a pioneer of hands-on science, setting-up the Bristol Exploratory which was the first centre of its kind in the country to show the relationship of science, nature and art to life.

This evolved into Explore At-Bristol after being moved and redesigned as part of the millennium developments.

He retired in 1988 but remained a leading voice in the world of psychology and science and an influential member of the University’s Department of Experimental Psychology until his death last year at the age of 86.

Many of the tributes paid to Professor Gregory praised his wacky, inventive, eclectic, brilliant and engaging personality, with a playful curiosity in science that inspired many.

Gregorian Reflections will feature leading scientists and science communicators, including Professor Colin Blakemore, former Chief Executive of the Chief Executive of the British Medical Research Council and Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Oxford and University of Warwick.
