Commonwealth Bronze for Bristol student

Lawrence Clarke, a student from the University of Bristol, has won the Bronze medal in the men’s 110m hurdles in the XIX Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India.

Lawrence, a member of the University’s High Performance Squad and a Lloyd Robinson Scholar student in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, came third at 13.70 seconds at the event held in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Lawrence’s fellow England team-mates, European champion, Andy Turner won the race in 13.38 seconds followed by William Sharman taking second place at 13.50 seconds.

Simon Hinks, Acting Director of Sport, Exercise & Health at the University, said: “We are thrilled that Lawrence has won the Bronze medal. It’s a fantastic achievement.”

An international multi-sports event held once every four years, the Games feature competitions involving thousands of elite athletes from members of the Commonwealth of Nations.
