He was one of six finalists in the category, thanks to a decrease in crime on University property by 30% in six years and an 80% increase in staff productivity over the same period – both consequences of a more structured and informed approach to risk management. The judges commented:

‘The development of a bespoke risk methodology identifying minimum security requirements for each building, based on activity within, is a lesson for all practitioners.’

The judges also credited Woods’ attention to detail with the University’s becoming one of the first in the UK to receive the Association of Chief Police Officers’ Secured Environments Award.

Woods said: ‘I am delighted to have received this coveted award, which is recognition of the hard work my staff have put in to deliver the high-quality, professional service that the University has come to expect from us. There is no doubt that their dedication and hard work have led to our achieving the reduction in crime that so impressed the award judges.’
