Students from the University of Bristol are set to host a glamorous occasion in aid of charity. The third Glitter dinner dance, to promote awareness and raise money for organisations that provide international humanitarian aid, is taking place next month, Monday [March 6].

The black tie event begins with a champagne reception, followed by a buffet dinner, live music, DJ, a raffle and entertainment from various University societies. Organised by Jo Kyte, a Bristol University medical student, the event is being held at 8 pm in Walkabout, Corn Street.

The two charities that will benefit from the evening are Oxfam and the World Medical Fund (WMF), a charity that initiates smaller-scale aid projects at the community level, mainly in Malawi.

There will be an opportunity to hear about the work carried out by both charities on Monday 27 February.  Michael Burt, Chief Executive, of the World Medical Fund and Oxfam representative, will speak about the charity’s work and how students can get involved. The talks will take place at 7 pm in the Lecture Theatre, Level 9, Bristol Royal Infirmary, Marlborough Street.

Jo Kyte, organiser, said: “This project has run successfully for the past two years and we are looking to build on this by raising further awareness and funding for these two charities through these exciting events.

"My aim is to encourage people to open their eyes to the world around them and to realise that we can make a difference where help is needed. Last year we raised over £3,500 and we hope to raise even more money at this year’s event.  We look forward to welcoming people to the dinner dance and hope they have an enjoyable evening.”

Tickets are priced £12 with £5 going direct to the charity.  Further details are available from Jo Kyte, email joannakyte@hotmail.com or tel 07796 265138.
