Crystals, nanostructures and lasers: three new Chemistry grants

Three new research grants have recently been awarded to academics in the School of Chemistry.

The EPSRC has awarded a grant to Professor Anthony Davis (Principal Investigator), Dr Jonathan Charmant and Professor Guy Orpen for a project entitled ‘Synthesis and applications of nanoporous steroidal crystals', totaling £304,899.

The Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration in Nanotechnology has awarded a grant to Professor Stephen Mann as Principal Investigator for a project entitled ‘New exploratory project - biomimetic synthese and characterisation of nanostructured device building blocks from template-directed metallisation of tobacco mosaic viroids’, totaling £127,436.52.

AWE plc has awarded a grant to Professor Andrew Orr-Ewing as Principal Investigator for a project entitled ‘New frontiers in quantitative infra-red to ultraviolet spectroscopy using tunable diode lasers and quantum-cascade lasers’, totaling £21,000.
