Emily Rigby, a fourth-year Bristol medical student, has been elected chair of the British Medical Association's (BMA) Medical Students Committee.

The Medical Students Committee is a body comprising BMA student members from all UK medical schools who are elected to deal with issues affecting medical students. Members of the committee also sit on policy subcommittees that deal with issues relating to the finance, education and welfare of medical students across the UK. The national Medical Students Committee meets three or four times a year to discuss issues of national importance.

Ms Rigby is supported by three deputy chairs. The appointment lasts one year.

‘Taking on chair of the MSC is an amazing opportunity and puts me in a privileged position to represent medical students’, said Ms Rigby. ‘I’m looking forward to the coming year and hope to make a real impact on the issues and concerns affecting and important to medical students.’
