A Bristol University medical student, Jo Kyte, has organised a dinner dance to promote awareness and raise money for organisations that provide international humanitarian aid.
The Glitter Dinner Dance will take place on Monday 9 February at Toad, Corn Street, from 8 pm to 2 am. The evening starts with a champagne reception, followed by a buffet, bands, a DJ and a raffle.
The two charities that will benefit from the event are the well-known organisation, the Red Cross, and the World Medical Fund, a smaller and less widely recognised charity that initiates smaller-scale aid projects at the community level, mainly in Malawi.
The student, as part of her second-year curriculum, launched the project last month with two talks by both organisations about the work they carry out.
Jo Kyte, organiser of the event, said: ‘My aim is to encourage people to open their eyes to the world around them and to realise that we can make a difference where help is needed.
‘We look forward to welcoming local people to the dinner dance and hope they have an enjoyable evening.’
Tickets are priced £12 with £5 going direct to the charity. Further details are available from Jo Kyte on email joannakyte@hotmail.com or tel 07796 265138.
