Students from local schools will take part in an exciting creative learning programme in At-Bristol from 28 July to 1 August and 26 to 30 August 2003. The summer school is supported by Denman Charitable Trust and the Education Action Zone.

Designed to bridge the gap between primary and secondary school, pupils set to join Fairfield School in Montpellier and St George's Community College, Easton in September will work in teams with their future peers to design a dinosaur that is suited to a chosen habitat.

The school children will start their action packed week with a trip to Wildwalk-At-Bristol, to learn all about dinosaur food chains and habitats. New knowledge will then be put to the test in a habitat discovery game, where teams will have to use evidence to work out which habitat they have for their dinosaur creation.

A rare look at dinosaur teeth and claws and the chance to test out excavation skills in a specially designed dinosaur dig will give even more design inspiration. Developing teamwork, science investigation, and problem solving, teams will also get feedback from real dinosaur experts during a visit to the University of Bristol.

Caroline Milner, Education Officer for the University's Department of Earth Sciences, said: "This summer school will be a great way to develop relationship-building between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. It is also a fantastic opportunity for pupils from both schools to develop their scientific skills, communication and expression of ideas in an exciting and creative way. I'm sure it will be a fascinating and inspiring summer school and I can't wait to see the end results."
