University supports Adult Learners' Week

Press release issued: 8 May 2003

To mark this year's Adult Learners' Week, the Learndirect mobile will visit the University between 13th and 15th May.

To mark this year's Adult Learners Week (12-16 May), the Learndirect mobile will visit the University between 11am and 2pm on the following dates:

13 May
Wills Hall
14 May
Langford
15 May
The Hawthorns

The mobile's five satellite-linked computers will give visitors hand-on experience of the hundreds of courses available through Learndirect, the Government-backed University for Industry initiative that offers high quality learning opportunities to members of the public interested in improving their knowledge and skills.

There will also be information on programmes run by the University's Staff Development Department and the Public Programmes Office. Staff will be available to answer any questions relating to learning opportunities.

The visit has been arranged by the University in association with Bristol-based Brunel Training Group, the South West's leading training provider. Brunel Training Group is an accredited Learndirect training centre that organises training programmes for approximately 2,000 adults each year.

Simon Brewer, Brunel Training Group's Learndirect team leader, explained: "Learning does not start when we go to school and it should not end when we leave. If you didn't get the training you wanted when you were younger, it's not too late to learn now.

"We would encourage people to come along to the Learndirect mobile centre during Adult Learners Week to find out about the wide range of options available to them."

Staff from the University and Brunel Training Group will be available at the mobile centre to answer any questions relating to learning opportunities.
