University Organist and University Singers co-director David Bednall has received a prestigious commission from the Finzi Trust to write a Gloria and a Nunc Dimittis to complement the incomplete Magnificat by the composer Gerald Finzi, the 60th anniversary of whose death falls this year. As part of a series of events in the composer's memory, Gloucester Cathedral choir will premiere the new work at Evensong on 6 March 2016; a second performance will be integrated into the Three Choirs Festival at Gloucester Cathedral in July.
The new edition of Finzi's Magnificat, with David Bednall's added movements, is published by Boosey & Hawkes.
