Parking for disabled students

Any student with a disability or other condition affecting their mobility (including a difficult pregnancy) can apply for a disabled parking permit for Clifton Campus.

Purpose of the permit

Permits are for daily commuting to Clifton Campus for studying, not for overnight or long-term parking.

Eligibility

You must demonstrate how you meet at least one of the disabled parking criteria, in the Precinct Parking Policy Summary (PDF, 1,411kB).

Terms and conditions

Before submitting a disabled parking permit application, you must read and follow the Parking Terms and Conditions 2022V1 (PDF, 1,805kB).

Apply for a disabled students parking permit

You can apply for a disabled parking permit on the online permit management system.

You first need to:

  1. Register for an account on the permit management system. Use the alternative log on.
  2. Complete the online questionnaire and upload the documents required to support your application.
  3. Complete a Disabled Staff/Student Personal Statement (PDF, 1,314kB), and submit this with one of the following forms of evidence to support your application:
  • A current Blue Badge issued by your local council. (A PHOTO OF IT?)
  • Evidence of entitlement to the Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment.
  • A statement from your GP/Consultant or a statement from a UoB Disability Services Advisor, using the Disabled Staff/Student Medical Assessment Proforma (PDF, 1,900kB) confirming diagnosis of your condition and providing details of the impact on your mobility.

You must use the Disabled Staff/Student Medical Assessment Proforma, a GP letter will not be accepted in its place. This is so the University can ensure we gather the relevant information and it is in a consistent format.

Download each of the template forms to your computer and save a completed version before uploading it to your application. Do not attempt to complete these forms in your web browser as your progress will not be saved. These forms and further instructions on how to complete your application are available on the permit management website.

When to submit your application

New disabled parking permit applications may be submitted at any time. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Timeline for permit allocation

Allow at least 10 working days for a new permit to be issued.

When to reapply for a permit

All disabled staff parking permit holders are required to re-apply for their parking permits each year.

How applications are assessed

Disabled parking permit applications are reviewed by the University’s Occupational Health Service (OHS). The OHS provides an impartial, confidential service and no details are disclosed outside the Service without your consent.

If further information is required to assess your application, the OHS may consult with your GP or treating specialist and/or ask you to attend a meeting with an Occupational Health Advisor.

Temporary impairments

If you have a temporary mobility impairment the OHS will determine the length of time a permit will be issued for.

Unsuccessful applications

If your application is unsuccessful, you can contact OHS to discuss the reasons your application has been declined and you may be permitted to reapply. You cannot appeal a decision.

Space allocation

If your application for a parking permit is successful, you will be allocated a designated parking space as close to your normal place of study as possible.

The allocation of designated spaces is subject to operational constraints.

If a suitable disabled parking space is not available, an existing general staff or departmental parking space may be allocated on a temporary basis until a new disabled parking space can be created.

Due to the finite number of disabled parking spaces available, it will not be possible to allocate multiple disabled parking spaces to one permit holder to cover multiple study locations.

Using your permit

All University disabled parking permits will be virtual, although you may still choose to display your Blue Badge if you have one.

Register your vehicle

You can register up to four of your own vehicles on your disabled parking permit. However only one registered vehicle can use your permit at a time.

Activate your vehicle

If you have more than one vehicle registered to your permit you must ensure that the one you wish to park at the University is activated on your permit beforehand.

You can switch the active vehicle on your permit, and/or update the details of your registered vehicles at any time via the online permit system, by selecting ‘history’ on the home page and clicking on green vehicle icon against the relevant permit.

If you do not have the vehicle you wish to park on campus registered and active on your permit, this may result in enforcement action.

Parking coupons

You do not need to display a daily parking coupon in your vehicle to park in your designated disabled parking space.
