University of Bristol joins Ellen MacArthur Foundation as Network Member
19 August 2020
We are delighted to announce the University of Bristol has joined the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Network. The University is now a member of the network and featured as a Profiled University.
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s mission is to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. The Foundation works with business, academia, policymakers, and institutions to mobilise systems solutions at scale, globally. The Foundation works with its network of Strategic Partners, Partners, and Members to drive the transition.
The University’s participation as a network member will enable access to case studies and teaching resources, connect researchers with policymakers, and offer free courses on the circular economy for students.
The University of Bristol is one of the few Russell Group Universities to join the Foundation’s network, following its commitment to adopting a circular economy approach to resources, outlined in its 2017-2020 Circular Economy Strategy. It is also featured as one of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's Profiled Universities, a collaborative global community showcasing compelling teaching, research and other initiatives in the circular economy space.
As part of this community, the University showcases its circular economy teaching, research, projects and other activities via the public online profile. Profiled Universities are also invited to selected annual events and other high-profile activity areas the Ellen MacArthur Foundation is coordinating, such as live-streamed, online events.
The participation as a network member was driven by School of Management academic Umair Tanveer, whose research and teaching focuses on circular economy in relation to operations management.
Umair Tanveer said, “This is a great opportunity for us to work closely with an organisation that shares our values of working toward a better and more sustainable society. Our strength in research, coupled with the Foundation’s collaborative network and influence on policy brings clear benefits for all involved.”
The University of Bristol School of Management was officially launched 3rd August, with the mission “to empower leadership for a sustainable, inclusive and prosperous world through a progressive understanding of management and organisation in alliance with business, government and society”.
About the Ellen MacArthur Foundation
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is a global thought leader that works with some of the world’s most influential organisations to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. Such an economy is restorative and regenerative by design and is characterised by three core principles: designing out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems.
