CELTA: student experience
Previous CELTA student Sam tells us about his experience of the course, and how it has helped his career:
"I'd wanted to live abroad for some time, and after spending six months in Spain I decided it was something I definitely wanted to do.
I did the CELTA at Bristol as it offered accommodation and had the scale of backing and support of a university. The course was very well organised. There was never any confusion about what we were supposed to be doing and the timetable was well thought out and efficient. This was essential because there was a lot to learn over the four weeks!
The tutors worked at least as hard as we did, teaching us explicitly and by example, giving extensive feedback on our teaching practice and even towards the end advice about where to go to teach. They were always available for questions and really supported every one of us through the course.
Since finishing the course I have spent three years in China, learned a bit of Chinese and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I plan to return in a few years, but first I'm off to Spain for a year or two to get some more experience teaching Europeans, and also to improve my Spanish!"
