We are pleased to announce a Petrology Lunch with Professor Bill Nuttall on the topic of: Thinking about geological hydrogen.
Abstract
In this talk Professor Nuttall will introduce the topic of natural geological hydrogen sometimes termed ‘white’ or ‘gold’ hydrogen. This potentially important energy source was, for decades, missed by the energy industry – how could that happen? As worldwide interest now grows in this potentially valuable fuel, there is still uncertainty as to its geological origin. He will point to the role of helium in understanding the origin of natural hydrogen and argue that it can be useful to think in terms of wet and dry processes of hydrogen generation depending on location. He will point, in particular, to two distinct paths to a future geological hydrogen economy – one dry and one wet. Professor Nuttall is conscious that he is not an earth scientist, and he hopes that his introduction of such ideas might prompt some discussion.
