Careers event - Your Future in Earth Sciences - Autumn 2026

Where could your Earth Sciences degree take you?

Join us for an afternoon of career exploration, networking and inspiration with professionals, alumni and employers from across the Earth Sciences sector.

Meet people who once studied Earth Sciences themselves and discover how their careers have taken them into areas such as environmental consultancy, engineering, sustainability, research, policy, natural resources and beyond.

Whether you already know what you want to do or are still exploring your options, this is a chance to discover new possibilities, ask questions and start building connections for your future.

There are preparatory sessions with the Careers Service to get the most out of ‘Your Future in Earth Sciences’ day.

What’s happening on the day?

PRE-SESSSIONS (13:00-14:00. Wills Memorial Building. G27 Hook Lab)

There are three pre-sessions with the Careers Service to help you prepare, refine your pitch, build confidence, and approach employers with confidence.

  • 6th October - What can I do with my Earth Science Degree. Explore the wide range of career paths open to Earth Sciences graduates, learn about different sectors and roles, and gain insights into how your degree can be applied beyond
  • 13th October - Identifying your skills and creating an effective CV. Recognise the valuable skills you have developed through your studies and fieldwork, and learn how to present them effectively in a CV tailored to different opportunities.
  • 20th October - How to get the most out of ‘Your Future in Earth Sciences’. Learn how to approach employers with confidence, make a positive first impression, and have meaningful conversations at the event. Discover practical strategies for preparing in advance, networking effectively during the fair, and following up afterwards to make the most of the connections you build.

YOUR FUTURE IN EARTH SCIENCES (4th November. 13:00-15:30. Fry’s Building (Maths))

  • Panel discussion with Earth Sciences professionals sharing the skills employers look for, how the field is changing, and what it’s like to work as an Earth Scientist today.
  • Exhibition and networking. Chat with employers, Earth Science graduates and researchers. Ask questions, get advice, and hear what their jobs are really
  • Real career stories from people who once sat where you are now.
  • Grab free pizza and meet guests, academics, and students from BUGGS and Dinosoc in a relaxed setting.

Why come along?

Last year’s event was a huge hit — students said it was one of the most helpful ways to learn about life after Earth Sciences. It’s a friendly, open space where you can:

  • explore different career options,
  • get practical tips from people who’ve been in your shoes,
  • and start building connections that could help shape your future.
