We are pleased to announce a HotStuff seminar by Simona Cariello on the topic of: Artificial Intelligence in Space Exploration for Volcanic Hazard Monitoring.

Abstract:

Simona Cariello is originally from Sicily and currently resides in Catania, where she completed her Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and later earned her Master’s degree in Automation and Complex Systems Engineering. She is now a PhD student in Engineering at the University of Catania, working in collaboration with the Etna Volcano Observatory (EVO) of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). Her research focuses on exploring the potential of artificial intelligence for monitoring volcanic hazards from space. Specifically, she develops advanced predictive models that utilize diverse satellite data in both temporal and spatial domains to improve the understanding and forecasting of volcanic phenomena.
Simona is also actively involved in the Laboratory of Technologies for Volcanology (TechnoLab) at INGV-EVO, where the team seeks to integrate traditional ground-based volcano monitoring systems with innovations in satellite remote sensing and advanced computational methods. This integration of technologies aims to deepen the understanding of volcanic hazards and enhance predictive capabilities for assessing volcanic risks.
