Environmental Humanities, Science and Policy in Canada and Beyond - Dr Elisabeth Gilmore
Dr Elisabeth Gilmore, Carleton University and Bristol Next Generation Visiting Researcher
Arts Complex 1.H021
We are pleased to announce that Dr Elisabeth Gilmore, Bristol Next Generation Visiting Researcher, is presenting a seminar on the topic "Environmental Humanities, Science and Policy in Canada and Beyond".
Abstract:
Climate change presents some of the greatest challenges to nature and humans with increasingly complex interactions anticipated over the coming decades. Thus, climate research is also increasingly transcending disciplinary boundaries. The inconvenient implication, however, is that many scientists are working outside of their disciplinary background, and sometimes rely on inappropriate heuristics to understand how systems outside of their discipline work.
How can environmental humanities help to resolve this impasse? Dr Gilmore will share her insights into how ways of knowing vary across disciplines, and how she integrates tools and knowledge across engineering, social and economic sciences, and public policy in her work. She will share her wealth of experience working on climate change adaptation, specifically in the context of economics and policy of climate change.
