In Memoriam: Douglas Aubrey “Dobbie” Dobson

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Douglas Aubrey “Dobbie” Dobson.

After serving with the RAF from 1940 - 1945, Dobbie joined Bristol Dental Hospital in 1949 as a prosthetic technician, rising to the post of Chief Instructor by his retirement in 1988. During those years he taught students from across the world and from all walks of life. He took pleasure in getting to know them, and great pride in supporting and encouraging their progress towards a career in dentistry.

Known to his family as Don, he passed away aged 102 years on January 20 2026 peacefully at home, with a view from his bed over his beloved garden. He leaves a wife, Jean, to whom he was married for 74 years, two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will take place in the Woodland Chapel, Westerleigh Crematorium at 1 pm on Friday 6 March, to which former students and colleagues are most welcome.
