Having graduated from Bristol Dental School in 2021, Emily undertook an Academic Foundation Training post in the South West followed by an NIHR-funded Academic Clinical Fellowship.
On receiving the news on her PhD fellowship award, Emily said “This is a massive step towards a clinical academic career, which I’m planning on doing alongside general dental practice.”
Her research interests lie in public health and genetic epidemiology. She has worked with Dr Tom Dudding on genetic epidemiology projects, presenting her findings at the IADR conference in 2024 and publishing in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. She has also collaborated with Dr Mark Gormley on HPV vaccine uptake research, securing a pump-priming grant from the Royal College of Surgeons. This work has contributed to her developing interests in vaccination delivery within dental settings.
Emily commences her fellowship in Summer 2026, and will work part time as a Clinical Lecturer at Bristol Dental School and in practice whilst she develops her PhD proposal. Emily acknowledged the support Bristol Dental School played in helping her secure the PhD fellowship, “I could not have secured this fellowship without the unwavering support from Bristol Dental School throughout my Academic Clinical Fellowship, particularly Mark Gormley, who inspires me every time I speak to him!”
