For parents and supporters of students in The Courtrooms
Please be assured that we are here to help our students as we work together to support them through the period of self-isolation that began at 12.30 pm this afternoon (9 October) at one of our accommodation locations: The Courtrooms.
We have notified all those students who live there, and we held an online webinar today to talk with them directly.
We will make sure they get the reassurance they need, and we will answer any questions they may have.
The health and welfare of our students is the University’s top priority, and we will provide support for them 24 hours a day, throughout their period of self-isolation. Each student in The Courtroom will receive food parcels, including fresh fruit, bread and milk; full access to any medication they need; and laundry and waste collection services.
Courtrooms students will be able to continue mixing within their Living Circles, because it is important they are able to maintain social interactions with one another. They will also continue to access online teaching, and our full range of wellbeing support services. We have university teams on site, and a 24/7 helpline. We are also looking to offer social activities, and will share more details with The Courtrooms students later today, as will the Bristol Students Union.
Although we understand that some of the affected students may want to return home, this would contravene both PHE and Government guidelines and could put others at risk. We are therefore asking them to remain in The Courtrooms until they have completed their self-isolation.
In terms of overall COVID-19 cases in our community as of today, October 9, there have been 254 student and 3 staff cases. We will be reporting daily figures from Monday onwards, on a rolling two-week basis.
We have also set up a mobile testing units near to The Courtrooms (BS1 2AF), and we were making sure students are able to use it. This is in addition to other testing sites at two other university locations. These mobile testing units are for the exclusive use of University staff and students and operate on a walk-in basis between 10.30am to 3.30pm, seven days a week.
Students can book-in directly at the mobile testing unit and will be given a self-administered test. By registering their unique number online, they will then receive their results by text or email.
We continue to monitor the situation very closely and will keep you informed of any further developments.
