2024 Cohort

  • Ed Caffyn-Parsons (MChem)
Ed graduated from the University of Manchester in 2024. For his final year research project he worked with Dr Michael James investigating substitutions of aryl halides through radical initiated processes. Ed undertook an industrial placement at GSK, Stevenage, working in the medicinal chemistry department conducting synthetic chemistry towards medicinally relevant compounds.
  • Kate Davison (MChem)
Graduated from The University of Sheffield in 2023. During her final year, she worked with Dr Tim Craggs using single-molecule FRET to understand the structure-specific recognition of DNA prior to binding to FEN1. She then spent a year working in aseptics at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and in Quality Assurance at Pharmaxo.
  • Oliver Fifield (MChem)
Graduated from Durham University in 2024. During his final year project, he investigated the transferability of the Eschenmoser fragmentation to flow conditions as a crucial step towards the synthesis of Muscone. His final year project was completed at the Institut für Organische Chemie in Hannover, Germany and was conducted under the dual supervision of Professor Andreas Kirschning and Professor Ian Baxendale.
  • Cameron Inglis (MChem)
Graduated from the University of Bath in 2021. During his final year project, he worked with Prof. Michael Whittlesey investigating the synthesis, characterisation, and reactivity of novel Ruthenium-Zinc heterobimetallic complexes. Following his graduation, he started working at CatSci Ltd as a Process R&D Chemist until the summer of 2024.
  • Sam Jacob (MSci)
Graduated from the University of Bristol in 2024. During his final year research project, he worked under the supervision of Jonathan Clayden on the cyclic deracemisation of atropisomers and was awarded the Richard Dixon prize for best student on the F103 course.
  • Cameron Jones (MSci)
Graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2024. During his final year research project he worked under the supervision of Professor Oren Scherman, utilising quantum dots as photocatalysts for the [2+2] cycloadditon of alkenes in water.
  • Katie Lindley (MChem)
Graduated from the University of York in 2024. During her final year, Katie undertook a placement year at Charles River (Cambridge) in the Medicinal Chemistry department. Her placement involved the synthesis of small, novel molecules as part of three different projects in various stages of drug discovery.
  • Cameron McLean (MSci)
Graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2023. During his final year masters project he worked under the supervision of Professor Ross Forgan, investigating the metal-templated self-assembly of mechanically interlocked molecules. During his fourth year he completed an industrial placement at GSK, Stevenage, based in the medicinal
  • Yuming Pan (MSci)
Graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2023. He did his final year project with Prof. Christopher Hunter FRS, quantitatively investigating hydrogen bonds between electron-deficient amides and phosphine oxides and installing hydrogen bonding pairs on oligomers to characterize cooperativity between linear molecular strands with multiple hydrogen bond acceptors and donors. In September 2023, he joined Prof. Li Deng's group at Westlake University to explore synthetic methodologies involving highly strained bicyclo[1.1.0]butane systems.
  • Prakriti (MSci)
Prakriti graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in 2023. In her final year of MSci, she worked on C-3 alkylation of 2-Oxindoles with secondary alcohols using Co-based heterogeneous catalyst under the supervision of Prof. Debasis Banerjee.
