Colloid instrumentation

BACIC hosts a range of specialist colloid instrumentation. Most of this instrumentation is made available through a generous long-term loan from Krüss Scientific.

  • Droplet Shape Analyzer (Krüss DSA100s)
This versatile instrument can measure droplet contact angles, surface free energies, droplet-surface interactions, and pendant drop surface or interfacial tensions.
  • Droplet Shape Analyzer – Inkjet (Krüss DSA-inkjet)
This instrument allows study of droplets generated by inkjet printer heads.
  • Bubble Pressure Tensiometer (Krüss BP100)
This instrument permits measurements of dynamic surface tension using bubble pressure tensiometry.
  • Force Tensiometer (Krüss K100)
This instrument can measure surface tension using a range of methods, including Du Noüy ring, Wilhelmy plate, or rod.
  • Dynamic Foam Analyser (Krüss DFA100)
The Dynamic Foam Analyser allows explorations of foam formation behaviour, foam stability and structure (bubble size and distribution), and foam liquid content.
  • Spinning Drop Tensiometer (Krüss SDT)
The Spinning Drop Tensiometer allows measurements of interfacial tension with a high degree of accuracy and across a wide range in values.
  • Kinexus Pro Rheometer (Malvern KNX2100)
This rheometer permits the measurement of a sample’s viscosity.
