Overview - PLACE 2026 Summer Camp
Opportunity: 2 week cultural programme at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) in China.
Dates: 8 - 21 August 2026
Location: Guangzhou, China (also includes a visit to Hong Kong!)
Eligibility: Home students who are Bristol Scholars or UOB bursary recipients.
Cost: Tuition, accommodation, travel and most meals are free! See below for additional costs.

This programme will help you to:
- Gain confidence visiting a new part of the world
- Improve your understanding of Chinese culture
- Develop your intercultural skills
Eligibility
10 funded places are reserved for selected home students who are Bristol Scholars and/or UOB bursary recipients.
- Students must be registered undergraduates and not in their final year of study.
- There is no language requirement and the programme will be conducted in English.
This programme is available exclusively for funded students. You cannot apply directly.
Costs and Funding
- The usual programme fee is around £2130 which covers tuition, accommodation, travel and most meals during the programme.
- Successful students who apply via our team will have this cost waived (free!).
- Return flights from the UK are usually around £800 and the visa is expected to be under £150.
- Students will receive a £905 travel grant for flights and £238 grant to use for your visa and other costs.
- You will need to bring your own spending money for any extra activities/travel/souvenirs, as well as travel accessories such as luggage, sim cards etc.
- You will be eligible for free UOB travel insurance.
Accommodation
Students will have their own room in shared, modern dormitories which are similar to the UK. More information can be found here.
Application process
- Submit form below by 11.59pm Sun 4 Feb.
- Students will be shortlisted and invited to a casual 20 min interview on Thu 19 or Fri 20 Feb.
- Successful students will be notified by Mon 23 Feb and must complete application to HKUST (GZ) by Sat 28 Feb.
Applications closed 4 February, unfortunately late applications cannot be considered.
