Dr Susan Hopkins, CBE is the Chief Medical Advisor for the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and she holds honorary appointments at Imperial College London and University College London. Dr Hopkins was an Incident Director within PHE’s COVID-19 incident response from January to August 2020. Previously she was the Deputy Director, National Infection Service of Public Health England, leading on healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance, Clinical Director of Infection Services at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. She was appointed in 2006 as a consultant in infectious diseases and microbiology, leading the hospital epidemiology programme at the Royal Free and continues to practice clinically. She holds current research funding (as co or lead investigator) of approximately £20million with research partners across the UK. In December 2021 Dr Hopkins was awarded the Presidential Distinguished Service Award for Ireland and In May 2022, she was appointed as CBE, for services to Public Health.
