Vivan Therapeutics is a UK-based biotechnology company offering personalised cancer therapeutics utilising technology developed in partnership with Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) have been used for more than one hundred years to understand the mechanisms promoting tumour initiation and growth. Consequently, fly studies have provided fundamental answers on several oncogenic processes. During this seminar, I will present our strategy to translate basic and pre-clinical cancer research into clinical applications. We engineer flies to express the genetic alterations found in the patient's tumour, generating fly “avatars” developing cancers genetically similar to that of the patient. For each individual, we create half-million avatars, allowing testing of thousands of drugs and drug combinations to identify tailored treatment options. In this way, we are generating personalised novel treatment recommendations for each cancer patient.
