Getting the full picture on gender violence
Last year, there were 54,987 domestic abuse-related prosecutions in England and Wales with a 75% conviction rate of prosecutions brought. In most of these cases, the victim was female. But that is only part of the picture. Our researchers are tackling how gender violence is reported and portrayed to reveal, and challenge, the true scale of the issue.
The problematic rise of predictive analytics in children's social care
As local authorities adopt predictive analytics to manage strained child welfare services, serious concerns have emerged about bias, lack of transparency and unjust outcomes. Opaque “black box” systems trained on flawed data can misclassify families, reinforce discrimination and breach privacy. Without scrutinising datasets or algorithmic assumptions, these tools risk causing harm and injustice rather than safeguarding vulnerable children.
