Outreach
We run a cutting edge research project for A Level Biology students at our local state school, Cotham. Martin lab folk and some of our Biochemistry undergraduates guide the school students in genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and cell biology, ‘Using zebrafish as a model organism to study human disease’. This programme is run in the school labs using equipment bought for them with Wellcome Trust funding as part of the Authentic Biology initiative, and now overseen by the Institute for Research in Schools.
The British Society for Developmental Biology (BSDB) which Paul was Chair/President of for the last 5 years has just released a 20-minute movie to illustrate the beauty of developmental biology studies across UK labs and also how this fundamental science has many downstream implications for future therapeutics in the clinic.
