Join us for an evening of historical cabaret! Enjoy a musical cabaret performance in the atmospheric Improv Theatre, performed by University of Bristol students, and learn about an unknown chapter of migrant history in the UK. The musical history of refugees from European fascism in the UK in the WW2 era is little-known but can teach us much about artistic expression for political dissent. This cabaret performance will recreate vibrant cabaret songs from this time, some of which have not been performed for over 75 years.
Florian Scheding, Associate Professor in Music and Migration at the University of Bristol, will introduce each piece and share historical and musical insights. Audiences will also be invited to reflect together on migration in the UK, challenging existing preconceptions of migrants and celebrating the artistic contributions of refugees through history.
This event is a collaboration with Norbert Meyn, Royal College of Music, and is part of the University of Bristol Being Human Festival 2025 Hub Programme.
