Join Hannah More on an interactive walking tour through the streets of Bristol in 1807. Hannah, one of the most successful writers of the Georgian period, will bring to life the rich history of women like herself who were working, writing, and campaigning for social change in her hometown.
This 90-minute walking tour—led by an actor in period costume and designed for anyone aged 11 and above with an interest in women’s, literary, or local history—tells the forgotten stories of a network of women playwrights, poets, novelists, and educators active in Georgian Bristol. Stopping at Park Street School, Georgian House Museum, and Bristol Theatre Royal, it also explores how women like More played a vital role in the campaign to end the transatlantic trafficking of enslaved Africans, brought education to the working class, and rewrote history.
The walk covers approximately 1.5 miles and concludes with a visit to M Shed’s newly reimagined Transatlantic Trafficking of Enslaved Africans Gallery.
Please meet opposite the entrance of the Georgian House Museum five minutes ahead of the scheduled start time. The walk covers approximately 1.5 miles, is step-free and concludes with a visit to M Shed’s newly reimagined Transatlantic Trafficking of Enslaved Africans Gallery.
