Roundtable on Ancient Greek Comedy as Community Engagement (IGRCT, TaBS)

11 November 2024, 5.00 PM - 11 November 2024, 7.00 PM

GS1 Hepple Lecture Theatre, BS8 1SS

The Institute of Greece, Rome and the Classical Tradition (IGRCT) and Theatre at Bristol Seminars (TaBS) present an interdisciplinary roundtable on the topic of Ancient Greek Comedy as Community Engagement. This discussion will reflect on a recent practice-as-research collaboration with Teatro delle Albe, Chickenshed Theatre, UCL and the University of Parma, which explores the impacts performing ancient drama can have on young people: Aristophanes at Chickenshed. We aim to use this recent workshop and performance project on Aristophanes’ play Peace to open a conversation about the many and varied ways of approaching the performance of ancient drama in the present day. The roundtable will last from 5-6pm, followed by a drinks reception until 7pm.

Panellists: Dr Katja Krebs (Theatre), Dr Paul Martin (Classics), Dr Jess McCormack (Theatre), Dr Naomi Scott (Classics), Lucy Ruddiman (Theatre) and Dr Giovanna Di Martino (Greek and Latin, UCL).
