Placing Spaces Workshop

21 July 2024, 1.30 PM - 21 July 2024, 4.00 PM

Pervasive Media Studio, 1 Canons Road, Bristol, BS1 5TX

This family-friendly workshop explores intergenerational relationships and memories of place through creative technologies.

Can you tell me a little bit about where we are?

What can you see?

What’s your favourite thing to do here?

What memories do you have of this place?

Before we moved from Dundee to Bristol in the Autumn of 2023, I asked my daughter Poppy to take me to some of her favourite places where we lived. I asked her about how these places made her feel, what they made her think of and significant memories she attached to them. We documented our intergenerational father-daughter conversations through audio recordings and 3D scans of these sites.

Developed by artist-researcher Harry Robert Wilson in collaboration with his 7-year-old daughter Poppy, Placing Spaces uses 3D scanning and audio recorded conversations to install a series of geo-located Augmented Reality encounters at various outdoor locations. Part treasure hunt and part site-specific performance for one, Placing Spaces explores transitions and the layering of space, belonging and memory through the lens of one father-daughter relationship.

In this workshop Harry and Poppy will share the process of making the work with other children and their parents/carers with a view to developing it for a new context in Bristol.

Tickets can be found here. There are limited space (5 children/5 adult) so if you are interested in attending, please secure a ticket promptly. 1 ticket = 1 adult and 1 child.
