Theatre at Bristol Seminars (TaBS) presents a conversation with Little Bulb Theatre. Little Bulb are an award-winning national touring company based in the South West of England. We are delighted to welcome Little Bulb's Co-Artistic Director Alexander Scott who will be discussing two of Little Bulb's works, The Nutcracker and Listen Dance, and will touch on issues around creating new work, adapting existing work and risk-taking in the current climate of the theatre industry.
"What role should devising play in the broader theatre landscape? Are there now too many adaptations of existing stories and not enough new ones? How can devising processes help bridge the worlds between the old and new? These are some of the big questions Little Bulb have been pondering in recent years. We are a devising company of sixteen years operating in an increasingly risk averse climate; with the amount of commissioning money for new projects dwindling there is now increasing creative pressure to adapt known titles. In this talk we’ll look at some case studies from the Little Bulb repertoire and look at our future planning as we try to navigate these issues in a way that still rings true to the company’s core mission of creating new devised work."
