The BBC at 100 - The End of an Era?

On 18 October 2022 the BBC will celebrate its centenary. In this lecture, which takes place one hundred years to the day since the BBC was founded, University of Bristol historian Professor Simon Potter will survey the past achievements of the BBC but also cast a critical eye over its failings. He will assess the current challenges the Corporation is facing at a time when some are calling for an end to the TV licence fee and for even more profound changes in the structure of British broadcasting. He will argue that we can best understand these challenges by thinking about the complex processes by which the BBC has evolved over its first century, constantly changing to meet new threats and remain relevant in a rapidly changing global media landscape.
