Global Voices
Our Global Voices programme brings together Bristol students embarking on their year abroad with our international alumni community. It’s designed to spark conversation, cultural exchange and supportive guidance — offering students a friendly link to their new destination.
We’re currently seeking alumni based in:
Europe: France, Germany, Spain, Italy or the Netherlands.
Asia: Singapore, Hong Kong or Republic of Korea.
Americas: USA, Chile or Mexico.
Australia
Our Global Voices programme pairs alumni volunteers with Bristol students embarking on their year abroad.
Alumni offer invaluable insight — local tips, guidance, and friendly encouragement — while students share their own fresh perspectives in return.
This is a flexible, low-commitment opportunity: around one hour in total, usually involving a pre-travel call and/or email exchange. Where distance allows, we also love to see buddies meet up once the student arrives in their new city, but there’s no pressure or expectation if that’s not feasible.
Alumni are also welcome to share their top tips about their city or region without being matched a specific student.
We match internationally based alumni with students according to location and the information you provide in your application.
Introductions take place between March and July, ahead of most students travelling in August or September (timings may vary depending on region and placement).
If you can’t commit to being a partnered with a student, you can still contribute by sharing local advice that we’ll pass on to students heading to your area.
For alumni:
We’re looking for alumni based in the countries listed below who are happy to chat, offer recommendations, and help students prepare for life abroad. If you happen to be nearby, an in-person meet-up is a fantastic bonus. This is a fun and social role — perfect for meeting new people and reconnecting with the Bristol community.
For students:
Global Voices is open to all Bristol study-abroad students who will be moving to one of the following countries to study or undertake a work placement:
Europe: France, Spain, Italy, Germany or the Netherlands.
Asia: Singapore, Republic of Korea or Hong Kong.
Americas: The USA, Mexico or Chile.
Australia
Please note: we are unfortunately unable to match students undertaking a British Council teaching placement due to the timing of placement confirmations.
