A Geographer's Art: Celebrating Peter Haggett's life, work and legacy

The School of Geographical Sciences invites colleagues, former students and friends to a one-day event (online and in-person) celebrating Professor Peter Haggett CBE, FBA (1933–2025)—a scholar whose work helped reshape modern geography.

This event offers an opportunity to reflect on his legacy, share memories, and celebrate a remarkable geographer, as well as a great opportunity to return to Bristol and the School of Geographical Sciences.

Further details to be circulated to registrants once all speakers are confirmed.

About Professor Peter Haggett CBE, FBA

Haggett played a defining role in the diffusion of quantitative approaches, spatial science, and model-based reasoning, influencing how geography is studied, taught and practised across the world. His contributions extended across locational analysis and regional geography to pioneering advances in spatial epidemiology.

Fundraising

This event will also present a major initiative - for which funds are sought - to organise and promote the extensive written material that Peter left to Special Collections, University of Bristol, in January 2025.
