Join us for an evening with Dr Hannah Wakeford, Associate Professor in Astrophysics, who shares the weird and wonderful world of exoplanets. A fascinating new field of discovery, exoplanets are the planets that orbit stars other than the Sun.
From chains of rocky worlds and exotic clouds of molten rock to ultra-hot gas giants, Dr Hannah Wakeford will take you on an amazing journey into the atmosphere of alien worlds. What does it look like, beyond our own solar system? How do we measure and understand the nature of these strange new worlds? How have these stars and planetary systems evolved, and what does this mean for us down here?
About the speaker
Dr Hannah Wakeford has a Masters of Physics from the University of Aberystwyth and a PhD from the University of Exeter. She was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and a Giacconi Fellow at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Maryland, USA before she was appointed Lecturer in Astrophysics at the University of Bristol in 2020. She leads a research group who use space telescopes to examine alien worlds and she is a recipient of the Fowler Award from the Royal Astronomical Society for her trailblazing work in advancing our understanding of exoplanets.
