The Cambridge Branch are holding their Spring lecture for all alumni and friends at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge on Saturday 20 May 2023 at 2:15 pm.

The speaker will be Simon Berthon (BA Politics and Philosophy 1973). Upon graduating from Bristol, he won a BBC News traineeship and at the age of just 27 became Head of BBC Current Affairs in Northern Ireland. His distinguished career as a TV producer continued in England with many award winning programmes such as the “World In Action” SeriesMore recently Simon has written three succesful political thrillers for Harper Collins.

Simon’s talk, Investigative TV Journalism: the good, the bad and the ugly, contains elements of skulduggery, criminality and scandal. His anecdotes describe sometimes funny, often risky or downright dangerous projects, taking us behind the (usually concealed) camera.

After the talk we are invited to walk through the college grounds for tea in the lovely formal garden of the 1920s President’s Lodge, which is not normally open to the public.

The talk will be preceded by a very short AGM meeting. If you would like to join the committee, please do get in touch

Please join us for this unique occasion!

There is a carpark at the back of the college, reached from Storey’s Way, and both college and grounds are wheelchair accessible.
