Partnership Event: Tour of St Bride's Church

11 August 2022, 6.30 PM - 11 August 2022, 9.00 PM

St Bride's Church, Fleet Street, London, EC4Y 8AU

The London Branch is delighted to arrange a guided tour of St Bride’s Church on Fleet Street in London on Thursday 11 August 2022. This will be generously hosted by the Rector, The Revd. Canon Dr. Alison Joyce (M. Litt. Classics, 1983).

St Bride’s is one of the most ancient churches in London, founded in the 6th century. The present, beautiful, church is the 8th to have stood on the site. Its predecessor, destroyed during World War 2, was designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1672, following the Great Fire of London. Former parishioners include John Milton and Samuel Pepys.

Dr. Joyce is an expert on the church’s history and heritage, which includes 11/12th century London city walls; parish records going back to the Great Plague of 1665; Caxton print; and a massive ossuary, to name but a few of the church’s historic treasures.

The church has step free access. However, much of the history is buried in the crypt/ museum, which is accessed by a well-lit modern staircase.

Given space constraints in the museum this event is limited to 30 tickets. Early booking is advisable to avoid disappointment.

Ticket sales end on 11 August 2022.

Cost: £13 to include refreshments after the tour and a donation to the church.
