Bristol Connects Live: The Future of Creative Industries

2 March 2021, 2.00 PM - 2 March 2021, 3.00 PM

Zoom

Creative industries panel

Join fellow Bristol graduates for an online panel discussion about the future of creative industries on Tuesday 2 March 2021, 2-3 pm GMT.

It was one of the fastest-growing sectors in the UK pre-pandemic, but creative industries have taken a significant pause this year due to national restrictions. But what does this mean for the future of the sector? The alumni panel will discuss their perspectives on what the creative industries will be like post-pandemic. For example, will there be some areas in more or less demand? Will some areas simply "bounce back" and be exactly the same, or will there be some long-term changes?

This panel will explore the challenges and opportunities faced in the sector and you will have the opportunity to ask your questions to our alumni experts. Book your place to join us.

We are delighted to announce our panellists:

Steve Gatfield (BSc Psychology 1981), Group Chair at Elmwood

Stephen Gatfield is a highly-experienced leader of global marketing service businesses and an adviser and Director of several high growth technology enabled startups in the brand tech, connected gaming and online media sectors.

He was Regional Managing Director for Asia Pacific and then COO of Leo Burnett Worldwide from 1997-2003, EVP for corporate development for Interpublic Group (2004-2011) and CEO of Lowe&Partners Worldwide a key division of IPG which he led to Turnaround Agency of the Year in 2009. He is currently Group Chairman of Elmwood Design one of the UK’s leading global brand design consultancies. Stephen is a director of Watershed Ventures and leads Watershed’s Artful Innovation Programme designed to help STEAM innovators succeed.

Rebecca Hellen (BA History and History of Arts 1994), Specialist Advisor for Paintings Conservation at the National Trust

Rebecca worked at the Tate as a Paintings Conservator for 18 years. In this time she was heavily engaged with developing staff, deepening the discussion on art and widening accessibility for the general public. She is very invested in the ways conservation can help improve access to difficult art works. As a result of this she would teach visitors about the materials artists use, to make complex pieces more accessible.

Rebecca now supports National Trust properties in their short and long term conservation projects, working across 350 houses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with a collection of 13,500 paintings.

Jonny Coller (BA English 2002) Creative Director, South Shore Productions

Jonny is Creative Director at South Shore Productions, a television production company set up in 2019 by some of the most respected executives in the industry.

Jonny has nearly twenty years’ experience developing content and running teams at companies including ITV Studios and Twofour. He has been involved in the development of a raft of hit shows that have gone on to win awards and sell around the world. From BBC One’s highest-rated unscripted series, The Real Marigold Hotel, to celebrity events such as The Jump and Sink or Swim for Channel 4 and Don’t Rock the Boat for ITV, to hit reality format Ibiza Weekender for ITV2. He was also instrumental in the roll-out of the global format, This Time Next Year.
