Are you passionate about supporting student mental health? Do you want to take part in an unforgettable running challenge?
We are currently recruiting five alumni to run the 2026 London Marathon for #TeamUoB. In return for a place, we ask you to raise at least £2,500 for the University’s Healthy Minds programme, with half of the amount to be raised by January.
The 2026 London Marathon will take place on Sunday 26 April.
If you are interested in joining #TeamUoB, please see below for more information on Healthy Minds and details on how to apply.
Healthy Minds
The University’s Division of Sport, Exercise and Health (SEH) launched Healthy Minds in 2016. It aims to improve the wellbeing of Bristol students affected by mental ill health through a supported, mentored and monitored programme of physical activity.
Students receive tailored support that includes a mentor-guided activity programme, access to sporting opportunities and facilities, and dedicated support from a range of contact points. In addition to individual support, students can attend training sessions with others on the programme to combat feelings of isolation and foster a sense of community.
Access to the programme is completely free. Thanks to the generosity of Bristol’s donor community, including previous marathon runners, last year Healthy Minds was able to organise more small group exercise workshops, as well as provide sportswear and written resources to participants which empowered and encouraged them to adhere to their exercise journey. The funds raised this year will enable the programme to grow further and extend the support offered to students. You can read more about Healthy Minds here.
Since launching in 2016, Healthy Minds has supported hundreds of students living with mental health conditions. Students gain a healthy routine, improved confidence, a sense of community and a supportive network.
Upon completion of the programme, 100% of participants show an improvement in their wellbeing.
More generally, Healthy Minds encourages a wider culture change on campus in attitudes towards physical activity and wellbeing.
The University's Philanthropy Office will offer guidance and tips throughout your marathon journey to help you achieve the £2,500 fundraising target.
Professionals from Sport, Exercise and Health will also provide you with training resources and one-to-one advice to ensure you are ready for the marathon.
Places are allocated using two main criteria:
· Why you want to run for the University of Bristol and mental health support
· How you plan to raise £1,250 for Healthy Minds by January 2026 and the other half of your goal before the marathon.
To be considered as one of our marathon runners, please complete this application form before 9 am Monday 29 September 2025. We will let you know the status of your application within two weeks after the deadline.
