GW4 Facility for High-Resolution Electron Cryo-Microscopy - Equipment

FEI Talos Arctica 

‌‌The facility has a FEI™ Talos™ Arctica equipped with a 200 kV X-FEG, Ceta 16 M CCD detector, Gatan K2 DED, and Gatan GIF Quantum LS energy filter.

Users can acquire single particle or tomography data using FEI software EPU or TOMO and monitor acquisition quality in real time using Relion-3 or WARP.

Plunge-Freezing Devices

FEI Vitrobot: The Vitrobot is a semi-automated cryo-grid plunge-freezing device that offers precise control over critical parameters. Two blotting pads to either side of the specimen remove excess fluid by contacting the bottom edge of the cryo-grid at an angle with filter paper.

Leica EM GP: The Leica EM GP is located in the Wolfson Bioimaging Facility. It is a semi-automated cryo-grid plunge freezing device that blots excess fluid by contacting the front or back face of the cryo-grid with a filter paper. It offers control over multiple blotting parameters that are critical to achieve satisfactory ice thickness.

Glow Discharge Units

ELMOTM Glow Discharge System: The ELMOTM Glow Discharge System provides users with fine controls to pretreat TEM support films and change surface properties such as hydrophilicity and charge. Its accurate injection control of gases and liquids increases the reproducibility of surface treatments.

Leica ACE 600: Glow discharge and carbon coater located in the Wolfson Bioimaging Facility.

 

Access arrangements

All researchers must submit a Project Proposal Form for evaluation. Training for new users will be provided by facility staff.

Internal users can book facility equipment through the PPMS system.

External users can submit an Account Creation Form together with the Project Proposal Form.
