You can get low cost, high quality reconditioned second hand bikes from Lifecycle and Bristol Bike Project.
Staff are also able to get financial assistance if they cycle for work purposes as well as help towards the purchase of a new bike through the University's Cycle to Work Scheme.
It is important to use a good quality cycle lock (silver rated or higher) and cycle lights.
The University sells Gold-rated D-Locks and cycle lights at heavily discounted prices for students, and at wholesale prices for staff members.
Locks and lights can also be purchased from Security Services at Royal Fort Security Lodge during their opening hours Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00 (Card payments only are accepted) and via the The Bristol SU Shop online shop with the physical shop open Monday to Friday, 10am - 4pm.
North Sommerset (Langford) Campus staff and students can buy cycle locks and lights online from the University Online shop and collect them from the Winscombe building reception. You will need to show your receipt (either printed or on your phone) & Ucard to the reception staff on collection. The online shop links are:

Staff cycling on University business can claim a mileage allowance of 20 pence per mile by completing expense claims in the normal way, but specifying that they have travelled by bicycle. Journey must be undertaken in the course of the University's business and excludes journeys between one's home and normal place of work.
