Public transport
Find out about the different support the University offers for bus and train travel.
Bus travel
Bus travel is a great way to get around in Bristol. Our campuses and certain residences are linked to the city centre and beyond by regular bus services.
You can buy a bus pass or one-off tickets from First Bus, the city's main bus operator.
Student bus travel
Students can find out about bus accessibility and passes from Stoke Bishop and Langford campuses on the current students transport webpages.
All students can get cheaper bus fares online or via the First Bus app.
Staff bus travel
There are three main ways to get a staff discount on First bus tickets.
You can claim:
- 20% off an annual ticket
- 10% off a monthly ticket
- 10% off with an annual interest free loan
Find out about each discount on the Sustainability SharePoint site bus discount pages.
Train travel
Bristol has two major train stations, Bristol Temple Meads and Parkway and eleven suburban rail stations.
Clifton Down station is the nearest station to the Clifton campus. Temple Meads station is the nearest station to Temple Quarter.
Student train travel
You can get reduced rail fares with a 16-25 Railcard. This is available for anyone aged 16-25, or over 25 and in full-time study.

Booking business travel
If you are travelling on University business, visit the Book Business Travel pages on the finance SharePoint site before booking.
Interest free loan
Staff can also apply for an interest free loan to help with the purchase of a 6 or 12 month UK train season ticket. There is no additional discount for a rail season ticket, but staff can use the scheme to obtain a rail season ticket from any UK rail company.
The University of Bristol will buy it on your behalf and you will repay the cost of the ticket in 10 monthly instalments directly from your salary.
