Bus travel

Bristol is a great city to get around by bus. Our main campus and student residences are linked to the city centre and other places by frequent bus services, many running around the clock.

First Bus is the main operator, with many services stopping close to our main campus. Wessex and Abus also run services around Bristol and beyond.

Students and staff can benefit from discounted fares on bus services across Bristol and further afield. Visit our bus fares page.

Bristol Unibus U1

The Bristol Unibus U1 service commenced on 18 September 2017 and connects student residences at Stoke Bishop with our main campus and the city centre. ‌

Operated by First Bus, the U1 runs up to every 6-7 minutes at peak times during the week and every 20 minutes at the weekend.

At off-peak times, including night-time and weekends, the U1 route extends from our main campus to the city centre.

The U1 runs in University term time only and can be used by students, staff and the general public.

Students living in a University-allocated accommodation receive a free Bristol Unibus academic year pass valid for the U1 and First Bus services 3, 4, 9 and 72. Anyone else can buy a ticket or pass on board the U1.

During University holiday periods when the U1 service doesn’t operate, the Bristol Unibus academic year pass remains valid for service 3, with pass holders entitled to travel free on this service. Unibus academic year pass holders can travel free on services 4, 9 and 72 during university term time only.
